Have Household Hazardous Waste? Don’t Know Where To Dispose Of It?

hand-1030565_1920It’s never too soon to get a jump start on spring clean-up after the holidays…

If you have items cluttering up the garage, such as unused pesticides, motor oil, alkaline batteries, pool chemicals, and driveway sealants that you may not know how to properly dispose of or where to dispose of them – there is a once-a-year option that can help.

Residents in Saint Louis County, St. Louis City and Jefferson County can participate in the St. Louis Hazardous Waste program. Once a year, residents in St. Louis City and Jefferson County can dispose of items that are harmful to health and the environment at two locations, Lemay and Florrisant facilities. St. Louis County residents have additional drop-off times due to how the program is funded.

Reservations are required, and some items/weight may have a charge attached. Please see below for more information.

On the morning of Sept. 2, some Times readers reported that they felt an earthquake. They did, indeed. My sister in Kansas City said almost all of her friends felt it in Cow Town.

St. Louis and KC may be in for more shake, rattle and rolling due to man-made earthquakes. Scientists at a recent Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) conference noted that gas drillers in rural Oklahoma are the culprits for the quaking.

A new report links the vulnerability of East Antarctica’s ice sheet to past climate conditions like those of today (Washington Post).  This is a well-written story about finding the solution to a longstanding scientific mystery.  The outcome is all about sea level rise, and not too comfortable to behold.

Opinion: Earthly Beasts Beware

The Gospel of Matthew notes that what we do for the least of our living brethren, we do for the Lord. The very least of our earthly companions tend to be four-legged and six-legged – and we are not doing right by them.

Consider the spate of bills introduced in this past session of the state legislature, which were designed to repeal or weaken the Canine Cruelty Prevention Act. And our pet dogs are supposed to be our best friends!
