The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is presenting a Tree Health Update Seminar tailored for tree-care professionals and advanced enthusiasts on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center in Kirkwood. (Registration required.)

The seminar will offer the opportunity to learn more about current tree health problems and emerging threats that are likely to affect trees in Missouri during the next few years. Topics covered will include both common tree diseases and invasive insects. The seminar will be presented by MDC’s state forest entomologist and pathologist.
“This seminar is for arborists, horticulturists, and tree enthusiasts. It will discuss recent and forecasted insect and disease problems that may affect yard, park and forests trees,” said MDC Community Forester Mark Grueber, facilitator of the seminar.
“Discussion topics will include both native and exotic pest species and management strategies to minimize their impact on Missouri’s landscape,” he explained.
Grueber also said that while the program was aimed at tree care professionals, Master Gardeners and Missouri Master Naturalists could also benefit and are welcome as well.
The seminar will also provide continuing education credit for both professional arborists and foresters. The program is free, but advanced registration is required by calling 314-301-1500.
Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center is located in southwest St. Louis County at 11715 Cragwold Road, just north of the intersection of I-270 and I-44. Free parking is available but limited; carpooling is recommended if possible.
